Abstract:Benzalkonium chloride, a quaternary ammonium compound, is a bactericide that is widely used in food processing, medical environments, and households. Notably, its application in chemical production has led to the contamination of aquatic environments. Traditional biological treatment methods cannot effectively degrade benzalkonium chloride, whereas advanced oxidation techniques have received widespread attention. This article reviews several oxidation techniques, including ozone oxidation, photocatalytic oxidation, Fenton oxidation, and persulfate oxidation, and elaborates on the advantages, disadvantages, and mechanisms of each. Furthermore, the efficacy of these methods for pollutant degradation and the corresponding pathways are analyzed based on recent research progress regarding the application of advanced oxidation techniques in the treatment of benzalkonium chloride pollutants. This article provides a reference for future research and application of advanced oxidation technologies in the treatment of benzalkonium chloride pollutants.
